Motion Picturez, aka Al Shaw Ki (pronounced Al Swah Kee), is an eclectic, multi-faceted artist, producer, musician, dancer, and actor. The moniker, Motion Picturez originated from his love and passion for movies combined with his affinity for music and motion picture scores and soundtracks. Movie soundtracks became a prevalent influence in his life at an early age, listening and absorbing the science of scene and mood pairing with music syncopation. Fascinated with albums like Jaws (John Williams), Flash Gordon (Queen), The Wiz (Quincy Jones) and Black Caesar (James Brown) inspired him to make film and music. Al Shaw Ki is a screenwriter and storyteller who began writing short stories and comics at the early age of seven. Soon his talents evolved into poetry, music, dance and live performances as a teen and young adult. Growing up in the gritty urban streets, his mother was determined to keep him out of trouble and on the right path by encouraging him to play musical instruments. Little did she know that he would quickly transform into a music prodigy, playing the flute, drums, piano and guitar all by the age of 15. Soon, he became intrigued by digital music composition and MIDI technology - inspired by electronic drum machines, samplers and keyboards. As such, he started DJing parties, mixtapes and producing music for local community artists and friends.
A major milestone that changed the trajectory of Al Shaw Ki's life was being invited to participate in the groundbreaking Earnest Dickerson film Juice starring a then unknown Tupac Shakur and Omar Epps. Casted as a "Dancing Extra" he received an opportunity to join the principal cast on set for lunch. Breaking bread with actors Shakur, Epps, Kain and Hopkins affirmed his belief that he was born to do great things in film and music and he began to pursue it relentlessly.
Motion Picturez has worked with artists such as Brian Jackson, Sadat X, Artifacts, Diamond D, DJ Nabs, Boog Brown, Jo Doja, the Jazz Poets Society, and many others. Now in 2024, Motion Picturez is gearing up for his debut LP release entitled Broken People, with the provocative, bop-inducing lead single, The Sky Is Falling dropping in October.
